Writers Workshop

We read The OK Book by Amy Krouse Rosenthal. The book talks about all the things the character is “OK” at and how they hope to be really good at something one day.

We used this book to get an idea on our topic for Writers Workshop! Students wrote about things they were good at. Our book titles is The Good Book.

We have been working on our books for a little over a week now. We have been practicing Writers Workshop routines and procedures. We are putting the final touches on our books and starting to publish them! When we are ready to publish a book, we put a cover, a title, the author’s name, and finish the pictures by becoming illustrators. (This means students get to color their pictures!)

Each student had their own individual goal for writing. Some students were practicing making their pictures tell the story. Others were writing words and learning how to sound out words to write. We even had some students writing complete sentences and putting spaces between their words!

After students are done publishing their books, they will remain in the classroom for a couple of weeks for students to share with each other. Some will even go out in the hall on display for others to see!
